* Part-time students will be required to attend lectures with the full-time students on weekday mornings or afternoons. Hence, part-time students with full-time jobs are recommended to apply for day release to attend the lectures or compromise with their employers on a mutually agreed work schedule before applying for this programme.

  • A5. If I have not completed the undergraduate study by the time of application, am I eligible to apply for the GeoDS Program?"
    YES, provided that you can provide the complete transcript by the end of August. Meanwhile, you shall provide the current up-to-date transcript by uploading to the online application system.
  • A6. Is it necessary to provide letter(s) of recommendations or reference letter(s)?
    Applicants need not submit any recommendation letter(s). If you want to invite your referee(s) to write a recommendation, kindly provide the information of your referee(s) when filling in the online application form. An invitation email will be sent from the online reference system to the referees(s). Please note that the invitation links will be expired within two weeks. The applicants shall be responsible for reminding their referee(s) to fill in the online reference report by the deadline. They have the right to change the referee(s) by editing the information of the referee(s) on the online reference system. The Program does not have the right to do so. If your referee(s) has forgotten to fill in the form by the deadline, you still can try to contact the Program to see if any remedies can be made.

    You will have to settle the first installments when you receive the official offer, usually in the form of email, from the Faculty.

Awards & Scholarship

Geospatial Data Sciences Scholarship

 

The Geospatial Data Sciences Scholarship is open to application for all full-time students as an encouragement to support their GeoDS study and is awarded to a maximum of two students based on their performance in the first semester of the GeoDS study and proof of financial needs. The value of the Scholarship is HK$20,000.00 per awardee (deducted directly from the second instalment of the composition fee).

Geospatial Data Sciences Outstanding Graduate Award

 

The “Geospatial Data Sciences Outstanding Graduate Award” is awarded to outstanding graduates who has completed all the requirements and obtained a Distinction in his/her studies in that academic year.

Geospatial Data Sciences Dissertation Award

 

The “Geospatial Data Sciences Dissertation Award” is awarded to one student who received the highest mark among the grade A dissertations in that academic year.

Internship

UN ESCAP Internship Opportunity

 

Selected students will be given the chance to undertake an internship at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, Thailand, for a duration of two months or longer, depending on available positions and the selection process.

Provision of Feedback to Students

n connection to the University Assessment Policy, the Department of Geography has adopted the following policy on provision of feedback to students on marked coursework assignments and written examination performance.

A. Provision of feedback on coursework assignments
  1. All teachers should provide written feedback on all the marked assignments, and return all marked assignments to students within 2-4 weeks (pending on the actual class size) after the submission deadline.
     

  2. Holistic feedback on the overall class performance in each assignment should be provided in the Course Moodle so as to (a) explain why some students have managed to obtain A- / A / A+ grades for the assignment, and (b) give suggestions to the weaker grade students on how to improve. The holistic feedback should be put on the Course Moodle within four weeks after the submission deadline.
     

  3. For courses that have in-class quizzes as part of the coursework assessment, teachers should use the Course Moodle to provide feedback on the class overall performance in each quiz.

B. Provision of feedback on written examination performance
  1. Feedback on students' overall examination performance should be provided on the respective Course Moodle so that they can identify weaknesses and look for ways to improve in future examinations.
     

  2. Teachers should upload the feedback on examination performance on the Course Moodle within two weeks after the recommended final grades and results have been endorsed by the Departmental Examination Meeting.
